I wanted a place where we could spoil ourselves and indulge. So what better place than Las Vegas to do that? They don’t call it “Sin City” for nothing. We decided to go with the Vdara Hotel & Spa for their unique Las Vegas experience.

Booking

I’ve always wanted to try out Las Vegas’ more recent hotels, so immediately my choices were between The Cosmopolitan, Aria, and Vdara. My partner and I wanted to stay somewhere close to the center of The Strip so any of those hotels were a good option. But what had us choose Vdara for our stay was that we had no interest in gambling and clubbing. Vdara started a hashtag called #DoVegasDifferently; because they boast on being a luxury hotel that is both non-gaming and smoke-free which makes it unique from other hotels on The Strip. Because of that, we went and booked our room online with Travelocity: quick and easy.

MONEY-SAVING TIP: If you’re booking a room on a third-party website, compare their rate with the hotel’s website. If the third-party website is cheaper, call the hotel and ask if they can match that rate or give a lower rate. You can save yourself some money!

Check-in

If we had to have a bad experience at the Vdara, it would be checking in. Check-in was 3pm and we arrived at 11am knowing we’d have to wait a few hours. We went to the front desk anyway and they promised us our room would be ready by 12:30pm. Bonus: it was on the 52nd floor too! We were happy! All we had to do was drop off our luggage at the luggage desk, grab lunch, and then relax in our beautiful suite. Only that didn’t happen. The room wasn’t ready yet so we were repromised our room by 2pm. We came back at 2pm and it still wasn’t ready. They offered another corner suite that was ready and waiting- but on the 18th floor. Not bad but we were keen to stay on the 52nd floor for the view so we decided to wait for our room at 3pm. By then, it still wasn’t ready. After a total of 4 1/2 hours, we finally got to our long awaited room. In response to our check-in experience, the hotel gave us a $50 room service credit and a late checkout when we asked for it. Now we didn’t mind a wait for 4 1/2 hours because we had originally planned that but because we had to keep coming back every 1-1 1/2 hours thinking our room was ready, we were annoyed. But that annoyance stopped once we stepped into our room. We were amazed.

We walked into this view and right there, we knew it was worth the wait! And the suite itself was HUGE. Like 811 square feet huge. Coming from our cozy studio apartments back in San Francisco, there was plenty of space for us. You can imagine how unhappy we were once we got back to our tight apartments.

Instead of shooting photos of the suite, I decided to create a walking video tour so that you guys can get a better idea of the space and layout. Watch the tour below:

My partner and I have a thing for baths so it was pure bliss sitting in a hot tub with bubbles, wine and the view. Now since we were on the 52nd floor, the view you have from the bath tub is mostly of the sky. But if you’re not 4’11” like me, you’ll probably be able to see the Strip but not by a lot.

Room Service

I always thought room service was expensive because of the act of bringing food directly to your room. But the quality of our food was amazing. We ordered french toast, a breakfast burrito, a bowl of fresh berries and a carafe of coffee. Because of our $50 room service credit, we only had to pay for tip. Even if we did pay $50, we agreed that the food was well worth the price with the bonus that they delivered it to our room too.

LOCATION

Vdara is close to the center of The Strip. There’s a direct bridge to the Bellagio if you want to gamble, watch Cirque Du Soleil’s “O,” or watch the Fountains of Bellagio up close. It does take 15-20 minutes to get to the Strip because you have to pass through Aria, Bellagio, or The Cosmopolitan. There is no direct pathway to that will lead you there. So if you have to buy convenience items, it would be best to get everything you need so you don’t have to take another trip.

Check-Out

We were in a rush to pack everything before we checked out. My partner called the front desk to ask if they could allow us 10 minutes beyond the check-out time to finish packing and they politely declined. We didn’t think they would immediately check if we’d still be in the room past check-out so we easily checked out by smartphone and continued packing. We were out in 15 minutes with ease. Checking out couldn’t be any more simpler and Vdara gives you different options for it:

  • Front desk
  • Mobile
  • Hotel phone
  • TV

Bottom Line

Would I come back? I would! But realistically, I probably wouldn’t because I want to experience other luxury hotels on The Strip.

Would I recommend it? Yes. Especially for people who are non-smokers & non-gamblers. Actually because of that, it’s family-friendly too!
